On the disguises: I was reading up on the historical accuracy of "ninja powers," and it said somewhere that the whole "ninjas going invisible and sneaking around at night" thing is pretty much fabricated/fantasy. It was more likely that they utilized "mental/psychological invisibility"- by dressing as members of lower society, people would be less likely to pay any attention to them.
And yes, it's likely Kye smokes.
